Inspired by the amazing oxblood trend of Fall 2012, we decided to create a darker look for this shoot. A deep purple-wine lip is actually quite wearable and can create a dramatic look for an otherwise ordinary outfit. A light face of makeup with a deep lip creates an instant statement and drama to any look; its unexpected, vampy, and chic. Keep reading we will tell you step by step on how to achieve this look…
Its no secret that I love to play dress up. Whether it is on me or some else; I love seeing my whole vision come alive. I was inspired by a sort of Gothic bride or Gothic dark beauty. I really wanted to do a dark lip but in a more wearable color because not everyone is comfortable in the new trend of the black lipstick. Steph is my muse and she lets me play dress up on her all the time {woooo!!!} which I heart her for.
Naturally for me when we have one look in mind I love to switch it up somehow. I took it easy this shoot and switched up her look towards the end by tossing the flower crown and putting this fabulous oxblood belt over her shoulders in one style and down her back as a backwards necklace in another style. Overall I am so pleased with the shoot, we have one playful Gothic Gypsy Gal running through the Forrest and then the sexpot who will kick your a$$ {haha!} We love playing dress up don’t you?
How to achieve this hair look:
Steph’s hair is wild, it likes to be curly, wavy, and straight; it basically has multiple personalities. For my vision in the look, I wanted the focus to be on the lip so I just wanted the hair to be wild and free.
We waved Steph’s hair with this fabulous and very affordable Remington T/Studio Silk Large Curling Wand , seriously it is the best $20 you will ever spend; her hair stays wavy for days! This wand is a miracle considering how fast her finger wave fell out in this last shoot and I used a $150 wand {bummer!}.
Step 1: Spray with Redken Iron Shape Thermal Spray
Take your time and spray each individual piece before every curl for better results.
Step 2: After you have waved your whole head Spray with a Medium Hold Hairspray, I love this one right now for this style Oribe Apres Beach Wave and Shine Hairspray
Step 3: To achieve a more relaxed wavy look, clip your hair half up and pull it back away from your face using a claw clip. We use this one in leopard in the Beauty Parlour by France luxe. France Luxe Mini Jurassic Claw Clip
Step 4: This process of pulling hair and letting it relax/straighten a bit will allow it to calm around your face and create volume everywhere else. Let your hair stay like that until you are ready to walk out the door. Put on your makeup and leave your hair in this way until you walk out the door.
Step 5: Spray Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray { oh my this stuff is HEAVEN! } throughout your hair hair. My boss, Dennis Parker for the new ABC Family Series Chasing Life introduced me to this miracle in a bottle and OH MY! Your hair is MAGIC! You can create anything on your head after spraying this! Flip your hair upside down, tousle and flip back.
Step 6: Your ready go get em tiger!
How to achieve this makeup look:
Step 1: Put a primer all over the face
Step 2: With a Duo Fiber brush gently buff the foundation into the skin in a circular motion
Step 3: Prime your eyelids with a crease preventing cream
Step 3: Apply the gold eyeshadow to the lid by gently pressing the product into the lid , also a little was added below her eye but in very close to her bottom lashes { a brush with tight bristles is best here for the most color payoff}
Step 4: Line your upper waterline with dark brown eyeliner to create a fuller look at the base of your lashes
Step 5: Curl and apply mascara to top and bottom lashes { in Steph’s case, she has naturally curly lashes so there is no curling needed they are curled up to her lid!!}
Step 6: Apply trio lashes from Kiss, if you have a curled lash, apply with tweezers for an easier application
Step 7: Apply a highlighter to your brow bones, tops of your cheeks, cupids bow, and down the center of your nose.
Step 8: Blush the apples of your cheeks and sweep up onto your cheek bone with what is left on the brush { make sure when you apply that you start at the apple of your cheek and then sweep up so that there is more color applied to the apple and less as you sweep up your cheek bone}
Step 9: With a steady hand, apply Nightmoth lip liner and shade it into your lips a tad! To finalize the oxblood lipstick look, apply Rebel lip, grab your flower crown and your ready to go….
