How to dress up a basic tee
Every girl loves slipping into a simple T-shirt for a break from the more difficult styles out there, but if you want to combine comfort and fashion you can easily dress up your favourite T-shirts. All you need is a little bit of knowhow and a great taste in fashion to cook up some excellent outfits that centre around basic T-shirts. Read on…
Whoever said T-shirts couldn’t be stylish was dead wrong, as T-shirts can actually make the best central element for your outfits. They can give your style a smart/casual feel, meaning they can be ideal for the workplace, and they can be bang on trend as well.
So, to get started, try out some of the following outfit ideas:
Add a waistcoat
Waistcoats might seem a little retro, but they are definitely coming back into fashion nowadays. This year, you can get away with adding a statement waistcoat to your T-shirt ensemble to spice it up a little bit. Go for ones with stud detail or interesting prints to really grab everyone’s attention.
Pair with an interesting skirt
Skirts and T-shirts might seem like a bit no-no, but you really can make it work as long as you choose the right kind of skirt and T-shirt. For example, going for a textured skirt could be the ideal option, as it could help to make your outfit a little bit fancier so that you achieve some much needed juxtaposition between your casual T-shirt and your amazing skirt.
Grab a scarf
Adding a vibrant scarf to your outfit could help to make your style look much more formal, so you could try out this idea for the workplace. Choose scarves with colourful prints and patterns and go for ones that you can drape and tie interestingly. They can also serve as a way to keep warm while the weather it a little bit chilly, so you should always consider keeping one in your bag just in case! Make sure you don’t combine scarves with printed T-shirts though; otherwise you might get some unwanted pattern clashing.
Put on a blazer
Wearing a blazer with your T-shirt can be a great way of smartening up an otherwise casual outfit. You can choose blazers in all kinds of colours and fabrics in order to make yourself really stand out. Consider wearing an evening jacket that comes with a great pattern, such as animal print or floral. Make sure you wear it with a pair of skinny jeans though; otherwise you might end up looking a bit too formal.
Get your accessories right
Even an otherwise boring T-shirt can be given an interesting edge by adding some great jewellery. If you’ve chosen a T-shirt with a low-cut front, add a statement necklace that will really give it some panache. For a T-shirt with a round neckline, go for a pendant necklace that will draw the eye downwards. You can also wear bracelets and rings that will smarten up your T-shirt outfit.

This post was contributed by Olivia Golding (hello!). I’m an aspiring writer who has a borderline obsession with all things fashion and I’m hoping to begin my own thriving blog by summer. Whereas I love current trends and seeing how it takes off with the public, I also believe in utilising the classics because let’s be honest, they are here to stay. There are a few firm favourite retailers but I’ve been having a lot of fun here with festival fashion ideas. If you trust my advice on tees, then you’ll certainly agree. Anyway, I digress. I hope you guys enjoyed my post!
